Despite their efforts, they came in fifth place out of seven teams. The two were exhausted and taking a nap when the boy’s father came in and took a photo of them snuggling together. “Our son Mitchell and his heifer after showing yesterday,” the caption reads. It went viral almost immediately, with over 15,000 likes the next day.
The boy’s mother, Laura Miner, told the Des Moines Register, “I think it’s just when you spend that much time with them, they get really comfortable.” She and her husband both grew up on farms, but now that they live elsewhere, they want their children to have a connection to their roots as well.
As a result, her family borrows animals for the summer so that her children can experience farm life. Mitchell’s father, Jeremy Miner, said, “We learned a lot from the farm. Those values have been instilled in us, and we are doing everything we can to preserve them.”
Audri the napping cow, on the other hand, will return to the dairy farm once the shows are over in September.
Mitchell Miner and his cow Audri recently participated in the Iowa State Fair dairy kettle show.
