No one says “no” to relax on a very comfortable sofa while your favorite TV show is on. But if this is your daily life, it may be a little too much. This is how this lazy kangaroo goes through that era. Meet Rufus, the most spoiled Joey in the world.
Now that I’m over four years old, Rufus’s life hasn’t always been this way. When he was eight months old, the kangaroo was rescued and arrived at the Patch Kangaroo Sanctuary in Boston, South Australia. Fortunately, it was here that he found all the love and comfort he needed for Kim Haywood and her husband Neil, the people who run the sanctuary. Feeling so clinging to both the caring couple and the rescued kangaroo, Kim and Neil decided to keep Rufus home. Now he’s pretending to own the place, or at least the sofa.
Rufus loves spending his days on a comfortable sofa and hugging his father. But both Neil and Kim soon realized that the sofa might not be big enough for all of them. In fact, Rufus wants everything for himself, and sometimes for his father. Sometimes he asks him for some abdominal massages, and Neil is willing to offer them.
“When he started it, we thought it was the cutest thing ever, and we saw Rufus very different from the rest of the world and how much he loves the couch. I was able to see how safe it felt there, “explained Kim. “He finds it very safe there and goes into the deepest sleep, and he doesn’t even care about watching a little TV.”
But Heywoods doesn’t even care that there’s no more space to sit on the sofa. The most important thing for them is to see when Rufus feels comfortable and happy!
Watch Rufus react when Mom says it’s time to sleep!
“We really agree on what makes him happy,” Rufus’ mom said. “He’s really getting a little mad,” she said. “If he doesn’t want to bother us sitting next to him, he’ll gently push us away.”
Although they love Rufus like their own children, these gentle people still have a heart for other animals in need. So far, they have cared for 28 kangaroos, 2 wombats and 2 wallas that have been rescued from their hideout. “I have always loved animals and I know I have a haven, and I know why I was born on this earth,” Kim proudly said.
