A family in New Zealand was very concerned about the loss of an elderly dog. But when he returned home with a touching note around his neck, they were speechless!
A few weeks old puppy, Louie, lives on a farm with Marolyn Diver’s parents. The adorable Shepherd Dog has always been a very lively puppy, so she wandered around the house all day. But as Louie grows older, everything changes, and now 12-year-old Louie prefers to spend time at home rather than exploring the local area.
One day when Louie went missing for hours, her family was worried for good reason. It is at this point that Marolyn visits her parents. Her parents are just worried because they don’t know where Louie might be now. But that afternoon, everyone was surprised when the old dog returned home with a handwritten note around his neck.
“He looks exhausted and has just fallen,” Marolyn told THE DODO. “I was worried that someone would hurt him. But after reading the notes, I was completely relieved, and my heart melted.”
The note declared the dog a hero. “Louie is the hero of the day,” the note said. “He led me to Maddy in distress, stuck under a branch pile. Cheers, Rob.”
Rob, also a farmer, is the neighbor of Marolyn’s parents and Maddy is his pet dog. So, shortly after reading the letter, her parents contacted Rob by phone to ask for details. It turns out that Maddy was also missing that day and after Rob searched everywhere, when he got home he found Louie at his house. The dog insisted on Rob following him. The man trusted the dog’s instincts and unexpectedly led it to exactly where Maddy was.
Sadly, Maddy almost got stuck in some bushes, but thanks to her friend Louie, she’s now alive. “Rob said he was 100% sure Louie knew what he was doing, and getting Rob to Maddy was his only goal,” says Marolyn. “When he found it, Louie helped Rob dig it up, pull branches, dig the ground. When she got her second freedom, Rob said, the two dogs ran to a nearby pond and jumped there exhausted and drinking water.
“Exhausted after the rescue, Louie could barely get his head out of bed that day, much less eat or drink water. His poor condition made his parents even more worried. But miraculously, when Rob and Maddy decided to visit them, everything was back to normal.
“The next morning, Rob came with Maddy in a small basket of bicycles,” Marolyn said. “Louie got well and returned to normal.”
