Saved Kangaroo Insists On Cuddling With Dad On The Couch Every Day

Posted on January 28, 2022 by senad

No one would say “no” to relaxing on a very comfy sofa with your favorite TV show. But if it’s everyday, it could be too much. This is how this lazy kangaroo spends his day. Everyone, meet Rufus, the most naughty boy in the world.

Rufus, now four years old, hasn’t always been like this. At 8 months of age, the rescued kangaroo was sent to the Patch Kangaroo Sanctuary in Boston, South Australia. Luckily, here he found all the love and comfort he needed from Kym Haywood, who runs an orphanage, and her husband, Neil. The caring couple and the rescued kangaroo became very attached to each other, and Kym and Neil decided to to keep Rufus into their home. Now he acts as if he owns the place, or at least the sofa.

Rufus likes to spend the day lying on the comfy sofa and cuddling with his father. But Neil and Kim soon realized that the sofa might not be enough for all of them. In fact, Rufus wants all this for himself, and sometimes for his father. Because sometimes he asks for a massage on his stomach and Neil is happy to do it.

“When he started we thought it was the cutest thing in the world and we knew Rufus was very different and how much he liked the sofa and how safe he felt on it,” explains Kim. “He sleeps the deepest because there he knows he’s safe and doesn’t mind watching a bit of TV, as well.”

But the Haywood don’t even care that there’s no more room for them to sit on the sofa. The most important thing for them is to see Rufus when he feels comfortable and happy!

Look at Rufus’ reaction when his mother said it was time to sleep!

“We just do what makes him really happy,” Rufus mom said. “He’s a bit cranky. If he doesn’t want us to sit next to him, he’ll gently push us away.”

Although they love Rufus like their own child, these docile people are still partial to other animals in need. So far, they are caring for 28 rescued kangaroos, 2 wombats and 2 wallaroos from the sanctuary. “I’ve always been an animal lover and know with having the sanctuary I know what I was put on this Earth to do,” said proudly Kym.
