Being a sled dog, they need regular exercise. They do not bark very often, but they can be very loud and noisy. Of course, they have historically been used for Arctic expeditions, so they can withstand very cold temperatures.
They helped early North American settlers hunt, chase, tow gear, tow sleds, and find potential bears.
They were used to bring supplies to the French army and detect mines from isolated mountain outposts during World War I and World War II.
