Stray Rescue of St. Louis discovered a dog with a broken foot. Of course, they intended to save lives, but they had no idea how many more they would save.
Shortly after rescuing the dog, they discovered she had milk. They realized this dog was a new mother with puppies around at that point. Rescuers realized they had to find them as soon as possible.
They immediately went to the mother dog’s den in the underbrush to see if her pups were present. Rescuers brushed aside branches and crept through the shrubbery until they reached a small den.
Within the den, a hole in the ground that served as a ‘safe haven,’ there were not just a few puppies, but THIRTEEN! Their mother did an excellent job of keeping them safe and comfortable by concealing them.
Before returning the puppies and their mother to their rescue, rescuers carefully placed them one by one into a container. They were able to provide the mom and pups with the medical attention they needed there.
All of the puppies will be spayed and neutered before being adopted when they reach the appropriate age, and the mother will have surgery on her injured leg.
In the meantime, Stray Rescue of St. Louis is looking for puppy foster homes. They offer classes, and you can learn more about them by visiting their website.
