Hikers Come Upon Fearful, Injured Lost Dog On The Trail And Go The Additional Mile To Get Her To Safety
It’s inspiring to see people going above and beyond to help animals. A recent example is when two hikers spotted a lost and scared puppy on a mountain trail and didn’t hesitate to go above and beyond to assure its safe return home. This heartwarming story was presented by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. On November 19, two hikers were exploring the route in Meyers Ranch Park, Colorado, when they came across a dog that appeared to have been abandoned with no owner in sight.
The poor puppy was not only terrified, but also hurt. Despite the difficulties, the caring hikers strove to gain the dog’s trust, and one of them even carried the distraught canine down the mountain. Unfortunately, the dog bit one of the trekkers out of terror.
Despite the setback, the hikers stayed resolute in their determination to protect the puppy. While one of them lingered by the dog’s side, the injured hiker down the trail to seek medical attention and report the dog’s whereabouts to authorities. Jeffco Open Space Rangers and Animal Control Officers responded to the report and joined the injured hiker on the route, making their way back to the dog. Surprisingly, one of the rangers recognized the pup from a lost dog bulletin displayed at the park.
The team successfully rescued the injured dog and immediately contacted the owner, who made arrangements to reunite with their long-lost companion. Surprisingly, it was discovered that the dog, Nova, had been absent for an incredible two months! Despite her tragedy, which included a fractured leg, Nova is now resting comfortably in the warmth of her own home. The fact that Nova survived alone and injured for so long is a miracle story in and of itself.
The highly anticipated reunion became a reality solely because the hikers went above and beyond to save the day and ensure the dog received the necessary assistance. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office published this wonderful story ahead of Thanksgiving, emphasizing their intention to impart a message of thankfulness for acts of generosity offered to a lost pet. They expressed their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who helped Nova’s trip back home in their post, emphasizing the team work that made the heartwarming reunion possible.
