The tale of Zip, a 5-year-old rescue dog, and Tye, a newborn foal, is one of unexpected kindness and compassion. When Tye was just 9 days old, his mother went tragically, leaving him grieving and alone. The farm’s owner, Karla Swindle, was shocked to see Zip approach Tye and offer to take care of him, though. Tye found comfort in the unexpected bond with Zip despite the difficult beginning to his existence.

He used to simply kind of peer in the door and stare at the foals every year, but now it was different, Karla said. “Zip stayed with me in the lane of the barn all night. The foal was laying in the alley, and he just laid next the foal,” the owner recalled. “I spent the night taking care of the mama horse, hoping that I might pull her through.” Despite the small foal’s loss of its mother, he now has the most loving and caring buddy! The owner claimed that he treated it like his infant. He is saying to him, “You are not alone. This is the first time Zip has simply licked, nudged, and lain on a foal.

Zip remained by Tye’s side for almost two months, providing him with support and security. The foal seems overjoyed to have such a devoted friend. Tye was able to recover from his mother’s passing and move on because to Zip’s care. Tye never forgot his protecting friend and continued to spend time with him even as he matured into a grown-up horse.

Every time I left for the barn, Zip would race to the stall and wait for me there before stopping in front of the stall, according to Karla. “If Tye was lying down, he would go over there and rest his head on him,” I said. “As soon as I opened the door, he would almost knock me down before I could get in there.” More about this inspiring story in the video!
