Dog That Was Considered Permanently Paralyzed Is Learning To Walk Again: ‘It’s A Miracle’

Posted on September 25, 2021 by senad

All dogs deserve a good family, especially disabled dogs. While many adoptive parents are unaware of rescuing dogs with special needs, some kind people accept them and give them the love and help they need no matter what. And this love can be a powerful thing.  Sometimes miracles happen, and with the right care and support, their lives can be completely changed.

This was the case with one dog who miraculously recovered from disability in a car accident. Alfie, a Rottweiler cross, was paralyzed from the middle of his back after being hit by a car while he was a puppy. He was taken to the Gulf Coast Animal Welfare Society, which made him suitable for a stroller because his hind legs stopped working. Despite being seriously injured, it is said that Alfie never lost his spirit. “He came to GCHS wagging his tail and making everyone he met happy,” wrote the Humane Society on Facebook. “He got into the wheelchair immediately without stopping, and his rehabilitation journey began.” As Alfie got used to his new wheels, his friends at the Animal Protection Society began looking for a home for him forever. They had to find someone to take care of Alfie’s mobility needs for the rest of his life.

Fortunately, the perfect person soon appeared in Alfie’s life. Michelle Bell, owner of Happy Tails Pet Salon in Bonita Springs, Florida, was touched by Alfie’s story and wanted to take him home. She had a special personal relationship with Alfie’s condition as she has a paralyzed and disabled brother, as reported by NBC2. “It’s complicated. It’s a tough life, but it can still be good,” she told NBC2.

As Alfie’s new owner, Michele gave him all the love and care he needed and even began looking for ways to improve his condition. However, everything seemed gloomy. Specialists told her that Alfie would likely be permanently paralyzed and that it might even be better to amputate the dog’s legs. But Michele was still looking for answers. She gave Alfie various forms of physical therapy to help his legs. A friend recommended electroacupuncture – although Michelle says she was “skeptical,” says she was willing to try it as a last resort. “Let’s just try, because now nothing works,” he recalls thoughtfully. She didn’t know how well the therapy would work. Soon she saw the immediate result overwhelming her. “He was standing there wagging his tail as always,” Michelle told NBC2. “And it was an absolute shock, an absolute joy.” To her amazement, Alfie was able to walk again. He believes that his amazing results are the result of electroacupuncture treatment.

Alfie could walk so well again that Michele returned his stroller back to the Humane Society of the Gulf Coast. Alfie’s old friends were amazed at how much his life had changed since he left them. “Every time an animal from a shelter is adopted, its new future family brings new happiness and joy,” GCHS wrote on Facebook. “Miracles also happen when animals from the shelter find a new home. Alfie is one of those wonders. ”

We’re so glad Alfie can walk again. It is a real miracle, and all thanks to loving people who have never given up on it.
