It is always heartbreaking when a dog goes missing, especially if it is stolen. You wonder if your pet is safe and if you will ever see it again. It is even worse if the stolen pet is a therapy dog. Many people depend on service animals for their daily lives, and losing an animal can be devastating to their well-being.
That was the case when the family’s beloved dog, a therapy dog for their three autistic children, was stolen in June. But thankfully, thanks to the compassion of a stranger, he is finally home. Jen Arendt from Rochester, Minnesota has three autistic children who have benefited greatly from their therapy puppy, a French bulldog named Sprinkles.
But in June, the family was shocked and devastated after a woman stole sparks straight from their front yard, straight from the hands of Jen’s 14-year-old son.
According to the KTTC, the woman escaped on foot and escaped. Rochester police asked the public for guidance on the case. The crime left Jen confused: “This is absolutely devastating,” she told KTTC. “I mean I think I can leave them at home alone… I can’t leave them at home alone, I can’t leave valuables in my yard.”
But it was devastating for the cubs, who failed to notice that their dog had suddenly disappeared without a trace. “We all want him to come home safe but please, these are 3 people who don’t understand (I don’t know who that might be) why their best friend was stolen from them,” Jen wrote on Facebook. “They want their best friend back.”
To make matters worse, Jen was concerned about the dog’s medical condition – Sprinkles needed ear medication and posted on Facebook inviting the person who brought the dog to take him to the vet.
Weeks passed with no sign of the Sprinkles, despite the family offering gifts for his return. While the situation is heartbreaking, Jen urges her family to have faith. “I always tell people you know the Sprinkles will be returned. It will only be in God’s timing,” she told KTTC
Her faith was immediately rewarded. Recently, the family reunited with the Sprinkles in an unexpected way.
“Someone hugging him messaged me on Facebook, ‘Hey, I think I stole your French Bulldog. We’re sitting with the dog,'” Jen told KTTC. they did. ”
It turns out that the Sprinkles were bought by the St. Paul is unaware that his dog has been stolen. But Jen said that after seeing her Facebook post, they decided to “do the right thing” and return the dog to them.
“So very blessed for that,” Jen said.
The sad fact is that French Bulldogs are one of the most sought-after breeds by dog thieves, because they can be sold for high prices. There have been a lot of dog thefts like this lately, including the violent robbery of Lady Gaga’s pet bulldog.
Dognapper has not been identified, this story still has a happy ending, as Sprinkles is at home after being missing for 9 weeks. His family said he would continue to take lessons to become a therapy dog.
We are so happy that Sprinkles is back home! It’s terrible for someone to steal a dog from a boy’s hands, but we’re glad the new owners did the right thing and returned it.
