After Their Mother Dies, A Loving Dog Adopts Newborn Opossums

Posted on November 3, 2022November 3, 2022 by senad

When the young opossums’ mother tragically died, their fate was decided. The small vulnerable creatures, like the majority of wild animals, were dependent on their mother, so when she was gone, their chances of survival became quite slim. Fortunately, a sympathetic woman discovered them just in time and hurried to assist them.

When Stephanie Maldonado, a committed wildlife enthusiast and genuine animal lover, came discovered the baby opossums, they hadn’t even opened their eyes. The mother attempted to take them to a wildlife rescue facility, but it was full. Stephanie held the power to preserve the existence of these defenseless creatures, and she was adamant about doing so.

The young opossums were left at Stephanie’s house by a dog trainer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, who decided to take care of them. She was aware, however, that the mission would be extremely difficult because she had to bottle-feed the infants every two hours. But as it turned out, she received some further assistance from a surprising source.

When the woman arrived at her house, she showed the small animals to Pretinha, her dog, who, much to Stephanie’s surprise, intervened and took the helpless animals under her wing. The dog’s mother instincts immediately surfaced, and she began to care for the small opossums as if they were her own young.

Stephanie said on Facebook, “It’s quite great to watch all the care that she has with them, licking them all the time and nestling them. She acts as a mother figure for the smaller species.

Stephanie commented on Facebook, “It’s extremely great to watch all the care that she has with babies, licking them constantly and cuddling them.” For the small creatures, she resembles a mother.

Stephanie hopes that the opossums will be able to re-enter the wild when the time comes, although it seems unlikely given the lovely bond they have with their adoptive mother.
