After Surgery, A Blind Cocker Spaniel Sees Her Owners For The First Time

Posted on April 10, 2022 by senad

Olive was once a stray struggling for survival on the streets of Los Angeles. The poor dog had it rough; she had severe cataracts in both eyes, rendering her blind. And, as someone who grew up in Southern California and is familiar with Los Angeles, I can only imagine how terrifying her life must’ve been with all the traffic and cars.

Olive’s ordeal was thankfully cut short when she was rescued by her owners, Holly Emmerson and her husband Bart. Olive desperately needed cataract surgery, but raising the necessary funds took some time. But Holly and Bart persisted, and with the help of friends and family, as well as the West Coast Cocker Rescue, they were able to raise funds for Olive’s surgery.

When the big day arrived, Holly and Bart had no idea what to expect because it would be Olive’s first time seeing anything in three years. As they drove to pick up Olive from her surgery, the two were nervously excited.

Holly managed to capture the moment Olive sees them for the first time on video. Olive can be seen in the video coming around the corner of the vet’s office, wearing her surgery cone. The moment she sees her owners is so sweet – the excitement she displays brings tears to your eyes.

Following a very loving greeting, the ecstatic Olive begins to show an interest in the rest of her surroundings, taking in all the sights she’d never seen before. The trio then takes a well-deserved stroll.

“It was such an incredible moment to witness, seeing her that alert and looking us in the eyes,” Holly said.
