Melody Hames is a one-of-a-kind artist known as the Horse Barber. By cutting beautiful designs into the hair of her horse Romeo, she creates stunning works of art. Hames began cutting her pony when she was nine years old. Because her Connemara pony had Cushing’s Disease, she had to teach herself how to clip in order to keep him comfortable.
After 20 years, Hames became the first clipper in the United Kingdom to bring traditional and inventive clipping skills in the form of teaching and training as an equine educator. Her abilities have been acknowledged on a national and worldwide scale. She’s even worked with Andis, an American clipper manufacturer, to provide clipping demos to other equestrians. Her designs are simply stunning, and each clip is just as excellent as the last. She motivates others in the profession by giving training workshops on both traditional and creative clipping.
She has made several magnificent designs, including an homage to a warhorse, tribal prints, patriotic motifs, and many more. The Horse Barber offers traditional clipping, innovative clipping, trimming and show preparation, remedial Cushing’s & sweet itch clipping, and mountain & moorland show blending. She also offers confidence-building seminars, one-on-one training, and demonstrations. You can also take advantage of her online training services.
Her love of art and design, equestrian skills, and understanding of diverse horse coat types all contribute to Hames’ unique approach to clipping. Her mission is to make clipping safer and more fun for both horses and people. In terms of attention to detail, her work is absolutely wonderful! Her passion for horses and skill as a clipper are evident in every design. Take a peek at the video below!
