The brave cat named Kinako is the one that saved Jiji, an ill elderly man, from a life of complaining. The last time Jiji’s grandfather smiled was a very long time ago, according to his granddaughter Akiko. He was given a medical diagnosis in 2009, and ever since then, his zest for life has been waning.
It’s a good thing Jiji’s story didn’t have to end that way because, after Akiko bought his grandfather a cat, the cheerful man in him began to flourish once more. A cat ended up being the protagonist of Jiji’s story thanks to the joy of having Kinako the cat as a companion. Meet the best of friends, Jiji the grandpa and Kinako the cat. Jiji had been employed for 64 years before to receiving a medical diagnosis in 2009. Due to these events, he had a pessimistic outlook on life and became a cranky old guy. He had no idea that a cat would permanently alter his pessimistic way of life.
The cat was initially a little shy when Akiko first brought him home, but with time, he warmed up to Jiji. Since that time, he has kept Jiji company as she rediscovers her meaning in life. Whether grandpa is reading a newpaper, or even when he’s just resting, Kinako is always there, just like a guardian angel.
