Horses are such magnificent creatures that were made to gallop and go wild. But regrettably, not all of them can, like one miniature horse who was born unable to use his back legs due to a condition.
But all of that changed when some thoughtful people bought this horse a personalized wheelchair, enabling him to run for the first time on his own.
Since his birth, Turbo, a small horse, has experienced movement problems. He was born with two luxating patellas, which means that his kneecaps were positioned incorrectly at birth, making it impossible for him to bear weight on his hind legs.
The Road to Refuge Farm Sanctuary in North Haven, Connecticut, took him in. The sanctuary was founded by co-founder Megan Pereira, a mixed animal vet tech, who was motivated to create it in order to prevent the euthanasia of farm animals.
“I lean towards the special needs ones, the broken ones, the really medical intensive cases,” Megan said.
So when she learned about Turbo’s plight, she was driven to adopt the two-month-old miniature horse and provide for his needs.
Despite the horse’s limitations, she claimed that Turbo was a typical, amusing foal. After attending to his medical requirements, she started looking for a means to enable Turbo to walk by himself.
When the group Walkin’ Pets, which provides mobility aids to injured and crippled animals, learned about Turbo’s situation, they stepped in to assist.
“He started running as soon as we fastened him to his wagon! He performed superbly”, Megan said.
“I nearly broke down when I saw Turbo ‘walk’ without any assistance and dragging his legs into his trolley. I don’t typically cry, but I almost did. It was quite fun to see him sprint and buck.”
It’s obvious that Turbo has a new lease on life thanks to his new wheels. Seeing him go about on his own for the first time is incredibly motivating.
Along with assisting Turbo, Walkin’ Pets has done miracles for a variety of animals by designing specialized mobility products for creatures like tortoises and possums.
What a motivating tale. All animals should have the ability to walk independently, and we are aware that giving Turbo his own wheels will completely transform his life.
