John Patel and his wife, Kayla, went to a local animal shelter in Jackson, Tennessee, and weren’t sure if they wanted a dog, so they looked around. But when the cutest thing happened, it all changed. Of all the pitbulls barking and jumping in the cage, one pitbull stood out.
A 1-year-old Pitbull sat still and composed, drawing John’s attention. So he walked to her cage, where she put out her little feet as if to ask for her help. He soon knew they had to have her.
The Pitbull was no longer “cute” and was given up by its previous owner. Many abandon the Pitbull after crossing the puppy’s stage, and that’s exactly what happened to this sweet girl.
Patels called her Ellie. They were told they were supposed to put her down the same day she visited the shelter, but John was the earliest day he could pick her up until Monday. The shelter agreed, but said she would go down if she wasn’t picked up by Monday.
But Patels kept their words and picked up Erie on Monday! They took her home, and the dog couldn’t believe she would eventually have an eternal home. As soon as Erie entered the house, she started running through the apartment and jumped on the bed and sofa! She relaxed and settled in a new life.
That night, mom and dad gave her a bath, and she just lay down in the tub and enjoyed the water. Erie loves to chase her new parents everywhere and play tennis balls. Recently, it was discovered that the Pitbull prefers foam.
The only challenge they have encountered is dealing with the negative reactions of people that Erie is a pitbull. People were crossing the street to avoid it. But the truth is that Erie will not hurt even the flies.
Patels has decided to show Erie’s true personality and share her adoption story with Pittie Nation, a close Facebook group for pitbull enthusiasts. Patels didn’t intend to adopt a dog when he visited the shelter that day, but now he can’t imagine a life without Ellie.
